The Dangers of Social Media Corporations Interfering with U.S. Elections
In a time when free speech is touted as the cornerstone of democracy, social media corporations have emerged as gatekeepers of information. These platforms hold unprecedented power, not just over individual expression, but over the democratic process itself. When this power is misused to influence elections, it threatens the very foundation of the United States as a republic. Worse, it discriminates against individuals and groups, suppressing their voices under the guise of “content moderation” or “fact-checking.” This blog aims to expose the dangers of social media corporations interfering with elections, the chilling impact of censorship and collusion, and why affected individuals deserve justice and restitution.
The Weaponization of Social Media: Collusion and Counter-Electioneering
Social media platforms, initially hailed as tools of connection and empowerment, have morphed into instruments of control. Evidence has surfaced suggesting collusion between these corporations and political entities, raising alarms about counter-electioneering—a deliberate effort to sway public opinion and suppress opposing voices under the guise of enforcing “community standards.”
Consider this: when social media corporations selectively silence particular political viewpoints, they are engaging in voter suppression. By preventing certain perspectives from being heard, they manipulate the narrative around key issues, depriving voters of the full spectrum of information they need to make informed decisions. This covert interference is nothing short of modern treason against the democratic process.
Censorship: A Direct Attack on the People’s Voice
Censorship takes many forms—account suspensions, shadow bans, content removals, and algorithmic suppression. Each act of censorship is not merely a violation of free speech but a direct attack on democracy. When individuals or groups are silenced, their ability to participate meaningfully in the electoral process is diminished.
For instance, imagine being a small business owner advocating for policies that impact your livelihood, only to find your posts mysteriously buried or your account locked without explanation. Multiply this scenario by thousands or even millions of voices, and you have a systemic crisis: a scenario where the platform's bias determines whose message is heard and whose is muted. This is what happened to me and that’s why I am here. As any small e-commerce business owner will tell you, to be competitive you must have a Facebook business page, an Instagram store, and a TicTok store. Without them, you simply cannot compete.
Real-World Impact: Stories of Discrimination and Suppression
While social media corporations often claim impartiality, their actions tell a different story. Numerous accounts exist of users whose content was censored without legitimate cause, particularly around election seasons. Topics like healthcare reform, education policy, or government accountability—each critical to voters—are selectively throttled depending on their alignment with a platform's agenda.
This selective enforcement disproportionately affects certain demographics, fostering a climate of discrimination. Marginalized groups, independent journalists, and small organizations often lack the resources to fight back against such censorship, further entrenching existing inequalities.
Restitution for the Silenced: A Path Toward Justice
When social media corporations engage in censorship and collusion, they silence us and infringe upon our Constitutional rights! It is not enough to expose these injustices; we must also demand accountability. One effective approach is advocating for monetary damages to compensate victims of censorship. A fair framework would award $15,000 per incident of censorship, capped at $1,000,000 per person. This ensures that every affected individual receives restitution proportional to the harm caused while preventing frivolous claims. Such penalties would serve as a powerful deterrent, discouraging future misconduct by these corporations.
Holding Platforms Accountable: A Call to Action
Accountability must extend beyond financial penalties. Legal reforms are essential to prevent further abuse. First, Congress must establish clear guidelines defining and limiting the role of social media platforms in political discourse. Second, transparency mandates should require these companies to disclose their algorithms, moderation policies, and any political affiliations.
As users, we also have power. Support organizations fighting for free speech, advocate for fair election practices, and use alternative platforms that prioritize transparency and respect for diverse opinions. By rallying together, we can RESIST the damaging effects of censorship and voter suppression.
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher
Social media is no longer just a virtual space for sharing cat videos or reconnecting with old friends (was it ever really that?!). It has become a battleground for ideas and an arena where democracy is both tested and threatened. If left unchecked, the collusion and counter-electioneering by social media corporations could lead to lasting damage to our electoral process and constitutional rights.
We must stand together to demand change. By exposing these injustices, advocating for restitution, and pushing for legal reform, we can safeguard democracy and ensure that no individual or group is silenced. Let this be our collective mission: to hold social media corporations accountable and to protect the voice of every American. Finally, to Mark Zuckerberg of Meta (Facebook): I find it abhorrent that you complied with the President to censor us. There is an entire religion of people who were persecuted by a government official who would share my disappointment that you pretty much did exactly as the SS did when THEIR leader told them to silence the opposition, to silence a religion, to silence dissent. There was even a minor little war fought to stop the extermination attempts. Maybe you heard about it at some point in your privileged life? When that war was over, the trials in Nuremburg set an example: “I was just following orders” didn’t save the Nazis from the gallows for obeying Adolf Hitler’s orders. I do commend you for reporting what the Biden Administration told you to do, but I believe you had selfish motivations: I think after the attempted assassination of Former President Donald Trump, you immediately knew Mr. Trump was to win the election. In an attempt to stay out of prison or to keep you from bankruptcy, you “volunteered” the information. Never mind you had lied to Congress about it multiple times prior to your admission. You could have worn a hat or a t-shirt saying “I’m only here to save my ass,” and it wouldn’t be so glaringly obvious that you are simply trying to save your ass from the next administration. You even called Former President Trump a "badass" for how he handled his assassination attempt. Those of us with IQs higher than the nematode can read between the lines of that one. But when it comes to your epiphany and sudden jump from Democrat to Libertarian, Mr. Zuckerberg, I say too little too late!
