I’m Ken, the heart and hands behind Ken Makes!—a place where craftsmanship, creativity, and passion come together. If you’ve ever felt the joy of building something with your own hands or wanted to find a hobby that brings you fulfillment, you’re in the right place.
Why I Started Ken Makes!
From a young age, I found solace in creating. As a child, limited by physical challenges, I discovered that my hands could bring ideas to life—whether it was flying model airplanes, or painting vacuum-formed plastic model car dashboards.
That passion never faded. It only grew stronger. People told me I couldn't do the things real men do because I wasn't good enough. So, in an effort to silence my critics and prove them wrong, I started doing things to prove to myself that I was just as good as anybody else. And it kinda got addicting.
I became a volunteer. I got my Firefighter 1 certificate in June 2001. Then, September 11, 2001, changed everything. I witnessed true heroism, loss, and the undeniable power of human resilience. I was still only 17 years old and you have to understand, there were 343 examples of worst-case-scenario broadcast live.
We spent five months learning to avoid dying in a fire only 90 days prior. That moment changed everybody's life, but for me, it made me want nothing but happiness and compassion. I don't mention 9/11 often because it's still a very deep emotional quagmire for me and the only reason I mention it here is because it defined the rest of my life. It solidified my mission: to make this world a better place.
Through my years of experience in woodworking, laser cutting, leathercrafting, and DIY, I’ve learned that creativity isn’t just about saving money or making things—it’s about building something meaningful, something that lasts. It's knowing you could buy it on Amazon for cheaper than it will be for you to do it yourself. It's something everyone can do. It's love and beauty in a stressful, cruel, vile world. It's therapeutic. It liberates you from the things that are killing you from the inside out: stress and anger. Most people aren't prodigies: we all start somewhere. So whether you're a beginner or an expert, Now, I want to share that knowledge with you. Now, I want to share that knowledge with you.
